Todd Tucker, “The terror of hallow’s eve”



Daniel Espinosa (entrevistador de “Cementerio de noticias”)  Algunos serán desconocedores de tu persona hasta la fecha; ¿cómo te definirías para invertir la situación y que, a partir de ahora, no sea así?

Todd Tucker (director de “The terror of hallow’s eve”)  I started off as a special FX makeup artist, which included designing, sculpting, molding, fabricating, and applying a finished character look, and my goal was to establish myself in Hollywood in films and television; I started writing and directing my own films, which in turn “The terror of tallow’s eve” became my second feature film, in addition, I have produced and second unit directed a number films and online content.



D.E.  La trayectoria de uno habla por sí sola y en tu filmografía constan un buen número de ejemplos; ¿qué trabajos te colmaron de satisfacción, te brindaron más éxito y te hicieron sentir infravalorado?

T.T.  Our new film is probably my favorite of all of my endeavors, the first thirty minutes of the film is based on true events that happened to me as a teenager, this is definitely a story that holds near and dear to me. I’m very proud of it; in addition, seven years ago we created a family/comedy movie called, “Monster mutt”, this got worldwide distribution, but unfortunately, it came at a time when video rental stores collapsed and we didn’t get the traction hoped for, timing is everything.



D.E.  Los efectos especiales artesanales han perdido gran parte de su relevancia en detrimento de los generados por ordenador; ¿te posicionas a favor o en contra de esta corriente tan actual e irritante?

T.T.  I was fortunate to have worked on a number of films with heavy CG and found that there is a beautiful blend of practical FX and CG when it is thought out and combined correctly; in our film, we had all practical creatures with a CG visual enhancement, and FX shots that seamless.



D.E.  Las condiciones en las que se produzcan las primeras proyecciones suelen ser determinantes para el resto del recorrido; ¿qué crees que supone que la presentación española acontezca en el marco de un evento tan importante como el Sitges Film Festival 2017?

T.T.  We are so honored to be at the Sitges Film Festival, to be at this festival and at this level, I feel like it gave our film a certain credibility; I am looking forward to meeting the fans and watching the others films.



D.E.  Tomar como referencia otras obras cuando se firma la propia se antoja irremediable; ¿cuáles crees que fueron las más inspiradoras?

T.T.  I have always been a huge fan of filmmakers such as, Steven Spielberg, John Carpenter, Wes Craven, and Tim Burton, there were so many great films in the 70’s and 80’s that I used that as my point of inspiration and premise for our film...; I wanted to create a horror movie that gave you that 80’s nostalgia feeling with music by John Carpenter.



D.E.  La mayoría de profesionales encuentran grandes dificultades para lograr encuadrar su propuesta dentro de uno de los géneros convencionales; ¿te sucede lo mismo o puedes decantarte por alguno?

T.T.  “The terror of hallow’s eve” is definitely a horror film with an edge of dark fantasy; I feel that it is important to create characters and stories, and it is always important that the audience can connect with it.



D.E.  El actual panorama cultural implica que las ayudas económicas sean sumamente escasas en producciones de semejante índole; ¿hasta qué punto ha afectado tan peliagudo e irritante tema en esta?

T.T.  The budget was small compared to the size of the finished film, we have over a dozen creature characters and a cast of quality actors including Sarah Lancaster, Christian Kane, Juliet Landau, Eric Roberts and Doug Jones as “The Trickster”; the production was internally funded by our special effects makeup and production Illusion Industries.



D.E.  Este tipo de grabaciones suelen llevar aparejadas multitud de anécdotas; ¿hay alguna que quieras compartir en las siguientes líneas?

T.T.  The lead character “Timmy”, who is bullied in the film is based on myself; for anyone who sees this film and says “I know how that guy feels” I say “don’t let anyone dictate you, stay strong, the karma is real”.



D.E.  Es complicado prever la acogida de la que gozará cualquier pieza; ¿existe la perspectiva de expandir el horizonte de promoción de la presente más allá de festivales en busca de éxitos y reconocimiento?

T.T.  Because this movie was made to be a brand, we have created merchandise and a graphic novel for the film; also, the last five minutes of the film sets up the sequel, and as for expanding the horizons of the film, we are pushing for a theatrical release and worldwide distribution.



D.E.  Muchos esperarán impacientes tu siguiente incursión; ¿hay algún proyecto que vaya a ver la luz del que puedas adelantarnos detalles?

T.T.  Currently we are working on the script for the sequel of the film, as well as pitching a creature driven television series that we have developed; and, also, there will be lots more to come in the near future.



D.E.  Te agradezco enormemente, en nombre propio en particular y del equipo de esta humilde página en general, tu colaboración; ¿deseas añadir algo más a modo de “hasta luego” (nunca “adiós”, faltaría más)?

T.T.  Hopefully; “The terror of hallow’s eve” will not only be a fun and nostalgic monster movie, but will be relatable to a number of people and be a strong anti-bullying message told in a horrifically entertaining way.
